Phyllis Simpkins weeps at Bragg Funeral Home near the body of her fiance, Ronnie "Top Gun" Hamm who was stabbed to death on August 6. Hamm, who was a gold glove boxer in 1973, later turned to drugs and spent time in jail. More recently, Hamm turned his life around and the life of many Patersonians. Hamm encouraged people to get off the streets and into the gym where he taught them boxing skills. Hamm and Sinkins began dating in 2003 and had been engaged for over 7 months. A specific wedding date had not been scheduled. Monday, August 15, 2005. Herald News photo by, Kevin R. Wexler.
