“A Year in Tent City” 4/12 Lakewood’s Tent City is that town’s worst-kept dirty little secret. About 40 homeless live at the homeless camp inside the township’s borders, led and cared for by Minister Steve Brigham who lives at the camp himself. Although the town has tried to close it, they have been unsuccessful to this point because there is a need for such a place. A rooster wanders into a sunday service in one of the communal buildings at Lakewood's tent city as Minister Harold Harmon of Howell preaches on a Sunday morning. The octagon shaped building was used during the snowy winter to house residents whose tents collapsed during the heavy snows, but was cleared out so they could hold a service.
