As Alan watches, Leslie, right, challenges her younger son Adam, 14, on why he wants to buy a new remote control plane while he hasn't fixed the first one he bought before. She has taken on the parenting role for both the boys while Alan's disease has progressed. "It is hard to fill the shoes of two parents," Leslie says. " It really takes a toll on me." One of the hardest things for Alan to comes to deal with that he still wants to be the parent but can't fulfill the role completely.
