Greetings everyone, and welcome to the wonderful new world of NJPPA.org. I want to thank Jason Towlen for his expertise, time and hard work in putting the site together. I think everyone will agree that this is one of the best things NJPPA has done in a while. It will enable us to share and communicate with each other in a much more timely fashion, as well as offer something of interest to everyone.
It is so much more than just a display space for the clip and POY winners. It is a valuable source of information including downloadable membership forms, email links to the officers and volunteers, links to other photography sites, Just One More a space for those images you wish were published, but weren’t, plus guest columnists and updated information on NJPPA events. The site will expand in the future as members respond with ideas and suggestions, so feel free to contact any of us with your input.
Kathy Kelly will continue her role as InFocus editor but will now be Content Editor for the website. She has done a tremendous job of getting the quarterly magazine published, and we all owe her a debt of gratitude for the thousands of hours she put into it over the years. InFocus has not died, it has just changed formats. The money saved will enable us do educational forums, sponsor a mentoring program for young photographers and add a social event or two each year.
We are looking for more volunteers, specifically someone to head the Education Day committee and a chapter historian. We have boxes of prints, old newsletters and minutia from days gone by and I think it would be a good idea to get it archived and sorted for future reference. Did you know, for instance, that InFocus was originally called Out of Focus? Me neither. But those old newsletters contain a wealth of interesting facts and tidbits and should be preserved. Organizing the Education Day event would be just that getting guest speakers, getting the space, and encouraging members (and non-members) to come. Any takers?
We’re off to a good start in 2003, let’s keep up the momentum and make NJPPA as vibrant as it was in the "old days".
